The Church capable of seating 1,000, was opened on Friday 23rd October 1863 at 2.30pm. The Preacher was Reverend G.T Perks.

In 1934  the Church Hall was erected behind the chapel fronting onto Burrage Road.

The Church was bombed in 1940. The bombed church was used for an act of worship on VJ Day 15th August 1945. War damage repairs began in 1945, but dry rot was found in the roof beams and lower parts of the building, a special London Mission Commission in June 1949 agreed to take the church down.

The work started on the New Church with the stone-laying ceremony being held on 25th May 1968. The dedication of the New Church was held on 4th January 1969, and the official opening of the Youth and Community Centre was on 12th May 1973.

To give more room for the youth workmajor alterations were undertaken and again in 2000/1 the hall was rebuilt to allow the computer centre downstairs with the large hall above.
